One World Day is a cultural event that showcases the Cleveland Cultural Gardens in an amazing display of ethnic food, music, dance and crafts. According to the Cleveland Police Department, last year 20,000 Clevelanders were exposed to an international environment not available anywhere else in Northeast Ohio.
Last year (approximately) 500 visitors in the Pakistani Cultural Garden were able to sample flavorful Pakistani cuisine, listen to musical performers, enjoy ethnic dances, watch children reenact folktales and see clothing and handicrafts created by regional artisans.
One World Day in the Pakistani Cultural Garden is a truly immersive experience focusing on the rich heritage and culture of Pakistan. We would like this year to be even more amazing than last year.
It is very important for our culture to be represented at One World Day. We in the Pakistani Garden would like to change that narrative that is currently portrayed in the media. By presenting Pakistani food, music and art, we would like to present the real Pakistan. This will allow Clevelanders to see that their Pakistani friends, neighbors and colleagues come from a rich heritage and culture. We want to show that the extremism that is dramatized in the media is an anomaly. It is very important for Pakistanis to Fight the image sent out by sound bites that disparage law abiding citizens that contribute to this great nation.
