the project
The Shaker Arts Council (SHAC) intends to continue to "art wrap" traffic control boxes owned by the City of Shaker Heights that are located in both residential and commercial areas, at intersections of major streets. The money raised will be used to support the project and pay the artists whose designs are selected for installation. Three boxes will be wrapped with designs submitted by local High School art students.

why we're doing it
This Shaker Arts Council project has a positive impact on Shaker's neighborhoods and the residents in three ways. First, there is a financial benefit, as each artist receives $500 for each design. That stipend can make a difference, particularly since many have struggled during the pandemic. Second, the project has responded to the complaints about the "ugly" metal boxes on street corners, and residents appreciate the beauty that the artwork brings to the surroundings. Finally, all residents and visitors to our community share equally in the opportunity to view this public art on a frequent basis. The project showcases the amazing local talent within the community, and contributes to the city's unique character, providing visible evidence that the community supports the value of art.
