About the project
Whether it's "The 30 Million Word Gap" , Domestic Violence, Racial Inequity or The Summer Learning Loss all adds to our children falling behind, further and further. From birth to (5) five years old, children in lower socio-economic households, hears 30 million words less than children in higher socio-economic homes. Domestic Violence witnessed by children result in physical problems (colds, diarrhea etc.), excessive screaming and irritability. developmental delays and more. Suspensions and Expulsions are now becoming more regular in early childhood settings.
Our project focuses on early literacy involving the entire family, the parents (parent-like adults) and their child. This project hopes to establish a better involvement from the parents, yielding a healthy and stable living environment conducive to building a better future for the child(ren). This summer, there will be six workshops designed to increase the awareness of The 30 Million Word Gap, Domestic Violence, Racial Justice and Equity and The Summer Learning Loss.
Our target population are parents with children between the ages of 2-5 years old. Capacity is a total of up to 100 individuals (including parents and children).

Why we‘re doing it
"There can be no keener revelation of a society's soul than the way it treats it's children". - Nelson Mandela We've heard before, "Children Are Our Future" and "A Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Waste", that's why we're with the support of IOBY and our donors, are making this investment. Suspension and Expulsions of 3 to 5 years old in early childhood settings, need a closer review. Arrests while at school, not only increases a student's drop-out rate, but increases their chances of going from a '"Classmate to a Cellmate".
To this point, that's why we're adamant about "Orange NOT Being The New Black", Successfully done, parents who possess tools/information necessary to assist their child educationally. Increased self-respect and collaboration between parents. And better prepared students, equipped with the tools for their next grade level.
