Ohio City Riverview Care Package
We haven't had the chance to say hello to our elder neighbors at Riverview Terrace in a while! We want to send them all a care package to let them know we're thinking of them!

About the project
UPDATE APRIL 22, 2020
NEXT STEPS: Since we distributed the care packages Tuesday morning, we've realized the enormous number of our Riverview neighbors that don't have a suitable long-term mask to wear out in public, which is a serious problem for stopping the spread of covid-19. We want to help them find a well-designed, long-lasting mask that works well for them in public. We've extended our project a couple more weeks and are hoping to raise an additional $3,500 for 500 of these masks while we still have the 1:1 donor match available to us. This is a high-impact public health project.
FROM APRIL 17, 2020
Since we've all hunkered down in our homes the past few weeks, we haven't had the chance to say hello to our elder neighbors at Riverview Terrace on West 25th! We know they are trying to stay safe at home, and we want to send them all a care package to let them know we're thinking of them! Each package will include a few food items, paper games (including word searches, sudoku, crossword puzzles), and a few basic health necessities including Tylenol, soap, diluted bleach, and toilet paper.
We're purchasing most of these items from local Cleveland businesses, and hope to get the care packages distributed as soon as possible. We know it's not a lot, but we want our neighbors to know that we care very much and are here to help them get through to better days!
Donate $8 to share some care with one Riverview senior. Or $25, $40, or $65! We realize that everyone's budget is up in the air right now, but hope you would consider the large impact that even a small donation could make in helping neighbors stay home and avoid extra trips to the stores until the covid-19 peak is far behind us.
We hope to include some drawings in the care packages, so this project will include an arts component. Our idea is to solicit artwork and game ideas from the entire Ohio City community, so that all can be engaged in this effort. Are you an artist? Do you like to color? We hope to include some drawings in the care packages, so if you'd like to distribute your own artwork or have ideas, send an email to Malaz at "[email protected]"!
The Steps
UPDATE APRIL 22, 2020
We'd like to source 500 long-term, washable face masks. We are trying to find this quantity at a $5-7 price point, so our new goal is an additional $3,500. Our understanding is that each person at Riverview was given bandanas and rubberbands, but this is not a dignified or acceptable solution. If you or someone you know is in a position to help our Riverview neighbors stay safe and reduce public transmission, please consider donating or sharing our project! This is a high-impact public health project.
Budget (itemized for each care package):
Food items: $6.10
Activity items: $0.24
Health items: $2.66
Packaging it all up: $0.46
Total: $9.46
500 neighbors x $9.46 = $4,730 total for care packages
STRETCH GOAL!
500 reusable washable masks: $3,500
PROJECT FUNDING NEEDED = $8,230
ioby Platform Fee waived
ioby Fiscal Sponsorship Fee (5%) waived
