NurturHer

In Pennsylvania specifically, a large disparity exists between white and African American women for maternal mortality. Unfortunately, mortality is just the tip of the iceberg: for every woman who dies, there are more women who just barely survive. The NurturHer app was birthed out of the pandemic after seeing the need to serve moms and support them while they are recovering postpartum. While managing to offer contactless service and education that could ease them into motherhood after birth.  Kangaroo Birthing & Maternity Concierge and our fiscally sponsored sister arm (partner with New Sun Rising) Unshakeable Motherhood supports women of color by offering birth doula programming, motherhood transition encouragement and postpartum recovery lifestyle support.

The NurturHer App is a project in partnership with the Pittsburgh: A Safer Childbirth City project. The Jewish Healthcare Foundation (JHF) and its operating arm, Women’s Health Activist Movement Global (WHAMglobal), recently launched Pittsburgh: A Safer Childbirth City, an initiative that aims to transform the city into a safer, more equitable, and accessible place to give birth. 

We would like to extend the support by using the Ioby crowdfund to be an addition to the beta launch of the teaching and mommy concierge selector app called NurturHer. As we would like to continue the “Unshakeable Motherhood” project by offering moms gift cards to extend services i.e. (meal delivery, online learning, transportation, laundry and lifestyle management support) to populations in need.  As well as, raise funds for a vehicle dedicated to transporting mothers in service in tandem with the app.  As we would continue to connect with past Ioby campaign funded and trained birth workers that will actively support mothers through the NurturHer app project.

Our NurturHer App Advocates for Moms by: 

• Helping women by educating them through online workshops, tutorials and one-on-one office hours invites them to navigate the complexities of pregnancy, birth, postpartum recovery, parenting and beyond.
• Women will have access to a mommy concierge team that include some trained birth doulas where mothers can hand select them to help provide additional lifestyle and postpartum support. 
• Provide mobile car service for pregnant mothers for prenatal appointments, pick up service after hospital birth or transportation needed long term if the baby is in neonatal care. 
• Deliver nutritionally high calorie healthy snacks and pre-cooked postpartum family sized meals that are convenient for recovering mothers during and after birth. 

We would like to give personalized and contactless service to mothers at their most vulnerable time in their lives.  After giving birth, mothers may already feel isolated but adding the new layer of the pandemic after effects. It makes situations with mothers more disposable to risk. As a mommy concierge team will fill the gap where mothers may lack the proper support to help them to thrive while they are caretakers of their households. The pandemic has heightened this need to keep mothers safe from underlying conditions that make them accessible to the COVID-19 virus. 

We hope with your additional support to this project will offer different levels of support to high risk pregnant women to ensure that they are educated online early on and provide consistent support in prenatal care stages, promote healthy lifestyle behavior and access to needed health support.
