As a general music educator during a shelter in place, special classes came to a halt. My goal is to acquire an instrument that can be played by all at any given skillset, time, moved easily, and culturally sound. In a Coronavirus time, a drum circle offers a positive stress release, in safe spacing (in distance, outdoors, or within a gymnasium, and adhering to a 1:9 ratio.
Our traveling drum circle allows students easy access within walking distance of their homes -to professionals, uplifting messages, and a positive outlet, all while learning Senegalese rhythms, timing, and teamwork. Students will progress towards a virtual "showoff" showcase.
We look to grow our musicians one note at a time.
Thank you!

Remote learning has been a challenge for our students. While students can take math and English classes online without instruments in the home it is nearly impossible to instruct drumming in the same manner. Drumming is a great way to teach music theory and connectivity amongst peers and we have seen the effects of our programming on teens who may be struggling in those areas under normal circumstances. Increasing their mental and emotional stability is our focus. We aim to provide a safe outlet even in trying times.
Drumming is a cross-content activity, a combination of:
-physical education, as a life-long activity, breathing, and stamina
-health, lowering heart rate and blood pressure, is a musical mantra, surrounding oneself with positive energy, and an improved sense of self
-art, learning the history and how drums are made, the meanings of symbols and personal connections
-math, memorization, reasoning, timing, and focus
Drumming will attract a diverse group of students who are sitting at home. Drumming is inviting for all ages and all persons. Drumming will give students a purpose for their day, give them something to look forward to. Drumming transcends race and can include the whole family.
Have an unused drum, or any other instrument, please donate it to the cause.
Thank you!
