the project

The Northside Community Council (NCC) in partnership with Action Tank will produce a series of Street Meets (aka block parties) designed to use art, food, activities and games for kids and adults, and resource tables to better engage Northside residents and strengthen community connections that were stressed as a result of Covid. The three Street Meets will take place in various streets throughout Northside to reach all Northside residents.

The Street Meets will feature artists including face-painting and caricatures, local food and drink vendors, activities including dunking booths; games; bouncy houses; and chalk drawings, and resource providers including NEST; city resources for bill assistance; and more!

the steps

Concurrently with fundraising:

January to February- the production team will reach out to all vendors and partners to determine availability and pricing along with the city to begin the permitting process to block off the designated streets.

February and March- all vendors and partners will be confirmed along with the needed permits and resources.

March and April- the team will begin a comprehensive marketing campaign utilizing door-to-door canvassing, social media, newspaper, radio, email, and flyer distribution.

The first Street Meets will take place Saturday, April 23, 2022.

The team will continue marketing throughout May and June for the remaining two Street Meets.

why we're doing it

The Northside Community Council (NCC) has long endeavored to improve the diversity of its membership roster and participation at its monthly meetings, regular committees, and volunteer events to better serve all Northside residents. The Street Meets series featuring art, food, activities and games for kids and adults, and non-NCC resource tables to aid residents, such as city bill assistance, will help to better engage Northside residents in a covid safe environment. Utilizing artistic surveys and community engagement, the NCC will learn more about residents’ needs and wants to better serve all residents.
