About the project
The North Side Youth Mountain Bike Club gives kids--and parents--the chance to ride bikes in a safe and fun environment in Riverview Park. The idea is to get outside, have fun, learn something new, get some exercise, and connect with each other along the way. We learn together, ride together, and also volunteer together by working to improve the trails. Everyone is welcome, especially women and girls, people of color, low-income families, and people who are brand new to mountain biking. We raise money and partner with Bear Dog Bike shop to make sure that every kid who wants to ride is able. We are part of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Cycling League.
The Steps
Your contribution will help us to grow the bike club next year and welcome even more North Side families. We'll use the money to provide bikes and helmets for kids in need, build a team of trained coaches, and give kids the opportunity to participate in youth races and bike events. Even though the riding season doesn't start until July, we start our monthly volunteer trail work days in March!
Why we‘re doing it
We are committed to building a North Side where people can live happy, healthy, and meaningful lives. Our community struggles with economic and racial disparities, underfunded and underutilized public resources like parks, addiction to screens, obesity, and isolation and loneliness. We created the North Side Youth Mountain Bike Club so kids and parents can get into nature, connect with each other, challenge themselves, have fun, meet new people, get some exercise, contribute to our community by working on the trails, and develop a lifelong passion for riding bikes.
