the project

COVID-19 has forced a different lifestyle and created feelings of isolation for many. The goal of the Drive-In movie is to build connections with neighbors while following CDC guidelines.  As a Cleveland resident, I am observing multiple pandemics coexisting and it is my hope to use the Drive-In to help address these concerns. The communities hit hardest by COVID-19 are experiencing low numbers in Census self- reporting, Voter Registration, Domestic Violence, housing, etc. Our goal is to create a fun and engaging atmosphere while ensuring our essential needs are met.

the steps

1. Purchase Movie Rights, Port-A-Potty, Glow-in the dark toys

2. We will confirm community partners to pass out resources and recruit volunteers. Volunteers can help with Set-Up/ Break Down event, Event floaters.

3. Advertise events

Social Distance Guidelines

  1. All cars will be 6 feet apart and everyone must practice socially distancing.
  2. Volunteers must wear masks and/ or face shields.
  3. The best practice is to stay in the car, when you are outside of the car you must wear a mask to protect the space.
  4. All trash stays in your car or in a trash receptacle. Respect the space so that we will be able to host future events.
  5.  All violators will be asked to leave and will be prohibited from returning to future events.

Event Dates-

October 9- Dora the Explorer The Lost City of Gold

Each movie has a theme in which resources and speakers will discuss relevant topics. Housing resources and Census support will be provided to residents.

October 16/23-  (Pending)

The event will be a little different and the theme will be a drive-in with dinner and dialogue discussing what is on the November ballot.

October 30-  Spies in Disguise

Each movie has a theme in which resources and speakers will discuss relevant topics. Domestic resources and Census support will be provided to residents.

All events will be held at Morning Star Baptist Church.

why we're doing it

My mission is to address negative social determinants (barriers) that place families and communities at high risk.  Covid-19 has brought to the forefront the disparities that exist and it's consequences on individuals’ livelihood. Typically, low-income and communities of color are affected at disproportionate rates. In order for Cleveland to thrive after the pandemic, it is imperative that we protect residents and guard our community's future.

The goal of the Drive-In movie is to

  • Increase feelings of connectedness and social distance activities within our communities.  Numerous studies have linked a sense of connectedness to enhance well-being and mental health.
  • Inform residents of upcoming initiatives ( Census and Voting) and its impact on their livelihood.
  • Provide essential resources and supports.

All Clevelanders deserve equal access to information, resources, and neighborhoods that build social connections. The Drive-In will help ensure that our community is supported in this difficult time.
