the project

Next Level is committed to providing quality performing arts training that not only embraces self-love and awareness but explores the nuances of team-work and developing the mental discipline of becoming a performer. We are committed to doing this while simultaneously maintaining an inclusive, diverse, and safe space for all. We will provide the community with access to a variety of professional training in multiple performing arts disciplines. These disciplines include, but are not limited to, music, dance, theatre, and stage performance. Ultimately, it is our goal that our organization is known as a safe place for the youth to hone their performing arts skills and simply be themselves.

COVID 19 has required us to rethink and retool our services and how we deliver them. The need to provide quality equipment hasn't changed but having to invest in PPE and additional safety measures have made us have to adjust priorities.

The Next Level “Future Fund” (In Honor of Tah’Nyiah Froom)

We unexpectedly lost one of our inaugural members, Tah’Nyiah Froom, at the start of our season. Tah’Nyiah was a kind soul born with a natural talent for the arts. Performing was one of her favorite things to do, and we want to keep her legacy alive for future youth interested in the arts. A portion of the campaign proceeds will go to forming a scholarship to honor her memory, as well as to Tah’Nyiah’s sister to support her in her future endeavors.

the steps

We started the program already so a lot of the groundwork is already established. We currently hold weekly rehearsals where the students are currently training in acting, singing, dance, and music. The weekly rehearsals are geared towards sharpening their skillsets. The funds will help buy better-filming equipment. This equipment will be used to teach virtually and in-person (per COVID-19 guidelines) and to film individual and group projects. In addition, we will bring in working industry professionals to conduct master classes in their profession.  The training with industry professionals and the resident directing team will prepare them for their inaugural showcase. The Next Level Showcase will be an industry style showcase will feature solo, small group, and full group talents. It is our plan to buy costumes, music, licensing, and arrangements for the showcase. Lastly, the money will be spent buying personal protective equipment, air purifiers, and cleaning gear.

why we're doing it

We are currently living in a different world. Everyone has seen and felt what it's like to have to put everything on pause. As educators and professional performing artists, we not only felt our losses but the losses of our students as well. We realized that the youth needs the arts now more than ever. It not only allows them a sense of normalcy but a place to feel safe to express, perform, and be themselves. The youth and the arts matter and we plan to do everything we can to create that space and opportunity for them.

Ohio has had some of the greatest talents come out of it from John Legend to Halle Berry. There so many young artists who have those same dreams. They deserve access to the same quality training that students receive in LA and NYC. Please know that the intention of Next Level is not at all to undermine or take away from any existing performing arts program. We are all a community. We simply want to help provide more access to those resources.
