the project
Roanoke Community Garden Association currently manages four gardens around the Roanoke area. Our goal is continuous growth and education throughout the surrounding community. We are working to expand our outreach by building a new garden in South East. The plan as of now is to build 25 100 sq foot garden plots. We have a wide open and beautiful space that is simply perfect for a garden space. We have many eager gardeners that are super excited to start growing gardens and community! We envision a space that is open and welcoming of all people willing to learn, grow, and build community.
RCGA's plan is to build 25 in ground garden plots outlined by pathways along with a covered pavilion, tool shed, and water access. Everything needed for the neighborhood residents to be successful gardeners will be included - tools, compost, water, and even educational programs to teach them how to grow their food.
the steps
Fund raise for materials.
Source materials from local supply chain.
Recruit volunteer groups and community members to build beds, walkways, and fence.
Share gratitude for the new beautiful garden space and connected community!
why we're doing it
Many areas in Roanoke are considered food deserts. This means that areas lack access to fresh, healthy foods to provide nutritional support for the community. To try and address these issues we use community gardens to give power back to people. Growing food is not only a great way to bring healthy foods to people who may not be able to access it, but also is an empowering way to learn about life.
budget
Our current project costs are described below. We've already received $4,000 in financial support for this community garden so we only need an additional $2,700 to complete the garden so that it is functional for this growing season! Any additional funds raised will go towards a shelter.
Grading - $2100
Plumbing - $2200
Garden Pathways = $500
Shed - $700
Compost - $1200
Total = $6700
Minus the current funds in hand = $4,000
Total funding need: $2,700
PROJECT SUBTOTAL = | 2,700 |
ioby Platform Fee | $35 |
ioby Donation Processing Fee (3%) | $81 |
TOTAL TO RAISE ON ioby= | $2,816 |
