About the project

We are bringing an outreach music therapy program that empowers entire communities. Sadly, music has been taken out of many inner-city schools due to a lack of resources. We feel that every child should experience the gift of music. Our program helps to fill this void outside of school, using live instrument engagement as an outlet for youth to channel their frustrations, stress, and anxiety by learning to play instruments rather than using violence and anger. The program focuses on building confidence and gaining a wealth of knowledge in music.

Our team brings motivation to explore all genres of music, all while incorporating the arts, which provides a positive atmosphere for the youth to productively express themselves creatively, through music and dance. The students will learn about different music eras and history.  They will also learn about the different origins of dance and song.  We designed this program for children to join with their parents.  We also hope to build lasting family bonds with this class.

Why we‘re doing it

Our team is very adamant about teaching the youth about unity and diversity.  Hatred and violence are very prevalent in our society and we believe that a lot of these behaviors are learned during a child's adolescent years.  We try to stress the importance of being positive and confident in ourselves. This is learned at an early age and helps carry a child through life. It is important that we lead the youth by showing them in our actions that it is okay to do good in the world.  It is important that we teach our youth to be leaders and not followers. And we must lead by example.

I have found peace and joy in music.  I have found that learning about music and being introduced to musical instruments can truly uplift and heal.  I want to bring this same experience to my community and get families involved.
