MEDItalks & Thoughts' educational program has been working to educate 8-12th grade students on the medical field through challenging debates on medical topics, meetings with medical and pre-medical students, and lessons from professionals. We now want to expand our vision towards helping uplift the community that surrounds us--starting with a greater focus on supporting the homeless through Project: "Packed With Care."
the steps
- Utilize the funds received to purchase supplies for the care packages and receive the items (food supplies, sanitation supplies, basic/every-day items, etc.). Goal Date: May 22nd-May 29th
- Hold a COVID-safe event at a local park where volunteers will arrange the supplies and items to create the care packages. Goal Date: Weekend of June 5th
- Distribute the care-packages at the homeless shelter (with COVID-related precautions). Goal Date: Weekend of June 12th.
why we're doing it
Having access to basic supplies such as soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, washcloths, and even food and water has always posed some of the greatest challenges for the homeless community. However, within the past year, it has become even more crucial that every human being is able to remain safe and have access to sanitation supplies to protect themselves from exposure to the deadly COVID-19--regardless of their living conditions. Therefore, our team, composed entirely of aspiring 8-12th grade students, aims to create care packages filled with food, water, soap, shampoo, lotion, sunscreen, wet-wipes, washcloths, socks, and other supplies to donate to a local homeless shelter in the San Fernando Valley. With our original $700 budget, we are able to create approximately 50-55 care packages filled with socks, food, water, feminine products, soap, shampoo, combs, sunscreen, lotion, waterproof bags, etc. that we can donate to a homeless shelter. With these additional funds, we will likely be able to create 75-80 care packages instead of 50-55, and uplift more people in need! Updated Budget 4.26.2021
