the project
The Marion Street Park Block Association would like to bring a Music Fest to our Community, to be held at our beautiful Marion Hopkinson Playground/Park. Affordable, live music is hard to come by and, eventhough we live in New York City, the city of SummerStage, it's not always easy to make one's way to the parks where these are held, either because of logistics or transportation costs. This is one of the reasons why we hope to bring our own SummerStage to Brooklyn with this MusicFest in our neighborhood park.
the steps
Step 1: August 1 - Apprise Block Association Executive Team that we have the money in hand!
Step 2: August 1-9 - Confirm participation with musicians. We've already reached out to several musicians to gauge availablity since their schedules fill up quickly, especially during summer months.
Step 3: August 1-2 - Ensure required city permits are in place.
Step 4: August 12 - inform Community Board and 73rd Precinct. They help spread the word, boost attendance, and ensure public safety.
why we're doing it
Affordable, live music is hard to come by and, eventhough we live in New York City, the city of SummerStage, it's not always easy to make one's way to the parks where these are held, either because of logistics or transportation costs. This is one of the reasons why we hope to bring our own SummerStage to Brooklyn with this MusicFest in our neighborhood park. Additionally, science has shown that music strenghthens memory and reading skills, reduces stress and depression, and overall makes people happy, which is a great reason to enjoy it as much as we can, especially live!
