the project

The need for afterschool/out-of-school programs has always been essential in our communities. The COVID-19 and racial instability has only exasperated the demand. We have all been taken to a place of uncertainty and displacement. As adults we continue to struggle to make sense of our new world and adjust accordingly. Can you imagine the mind of a child during these times? Being taken from their world of consistency, and stabilization and being emerged into a world absent of friends, teachers and family. We need to restore those things, along with innovative ways for educational growth, safe emotional expression and Coronavirus safety.

The Major Care Ministries Cultural Arts and Education Program is designed as an all-inclusive arts and education program. In collaboration with teaching artist from Center for Arts Inspired Learning. The power of music and the arts are used as a vehicle for children in 2nd and 3rd grades, with or without developmental disabilities to increase academics in reading, math and science in the greater Cleveland school district. Within this process our small classes of 5 will allow children to learn to process information and emotions, self-expression, learning creativity, and healing. Through the provisions of each therapeutic 1hour session children are able to achieve individual goals and live in harmony with themselves and the world around them. Classes will be held 5 days a week at Williams Temple Church of God In Christ at 6812 Woodland Avenue Cleveland, Ohio 44103. It is our goal to increase reading, math, and science levels and assist students with learning to manage negative emotions that create barriers to academic learning.

why we're doing it

During these times of uncertainty, we have to continue providing our children with educational agents that support them and contribute to their growth. After-school and alternative school programs have always been essential in our communities. They provide indispensable services and support such as behavior management, academic enhancement well as healthy social interaction and  with a recreational impact.
