About the project

Friends of North Pacific Playground and Garden have been leading volunteers in beautifying and greening the park for several years.  We are seeking community support to sustain our work in 2022 and 2023. Specifically, we are raising funds to:

  • complete the boxwood wall along the playground perimeter (earlier plantings of boxwoods have proven to be very successful in bringing year-round color to the park and litter reduction);
  • host five community workdays including two It's My Park days (spring and fall);
  •  revive the community potluck (canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID) to connect residents;
  • expand our community fall pumpkin patch and giveaway;
  • collaborate on a public art mural along the back wall of the garden which would be visible from the playground and street; and
  • install solar-powered lighting to improve safety in the space.

Why we‘re doing it

The North Pacific Playground and Garden serve a vital role in the Boerum Hill community, which lacks publicly accessible green space. The equipment and ample room for free play are indispensable to families of toddlers and their caregivers, while the back vegetable and flower garden offers respite from urban life. As Friends of North Pacific Garden and Playground, we work to cultivate an urban green space that provides enjoyment for residents and visitors alike while fostering a sense of community through cultural, social, and educational activities. We see ourselves as stewards of the garden, assisting the Parks Department with greening and beautification. We also promote and sponsor small-scale community events to engage with and connect residents through a range of garden-related activities.
