the project

#LorainBetterBlock or #LBB for short is a celebration of the community. We want to temporarily demonstrate what the best block in the City of Lorain could look like. With the help and input of the community, we will be temporarily transforming one section of Lorain to a vibrant space that is friendly to all citizens, regardless of age, ability, or resources!

By helping us fund #LBB 2020 you will strengthen the City of Lorain, Lorain County, and Northeast Ohio!

Visit www.lorainbetterblock.com for more details!

Note: In the unlikely event that Lorain Better Block 2020 does not happen, any funds raised will be transferred to the #LorainProud general fund for other community projects.  Active #LorainProud projects and goals can be found at www.lorainproud.com.

the steps

Planning for #LBB 2020 will likely begin in October/November 2019.

Once funds are available the planning committee will select the event location and finalize the budget by the end of 2019.

Planning typically ramps up in the Spring with the temporary infrastrucure improvements implemented in early May prior to the "day-of" event.  Our goal is to leave the infrastructure in place for 1-2 weeks before and 1-2 weeks after the event (which is typically held on the third Saturday of May).

Once the infrastructure is removed and data/feedback has been gathered from the community a presentation will be put together for the benefit of local planners and community organizers.

why we're doing it

Our built environment impacts all of our lives.  The goal of Lorain Better Block is to temporarily demonstrate what the best block in the City of Lorain could look like. With the help and input of the community, we will be temporarily transforming one section of Lorain to a vibrant space that is friendly to all citizens, regardless of age, ability, or resources!  Specifically we want to improve safety and make it easier for the citizens of Lorain to choose active transportation and we want to highlight how safer, more equitable, and more inviting streets are a win for individual citizens and the local economy.
