the project

“Little Fish Community Center” will be more than just a childcare center, we’ll offer care and resources to the community as a whole. We will be a childcare, and outreach program for families of children with special needs, low income families, and teen parents. The center will also provide mental health services, including counseling, substance abuse meetings, along with community programs providing food, clothing, and personal hygiene items as well as job search and preparation assistance.

At "Little Fish Community Center" we see a child, family, and community full of potential. We will work as a team with local companies and our support team to provide the best care for the members of our community.

The center will have a childcare program offering county assistance for child care with and average family contribution of $20 or less a week. All money brought in through the child care tuition will be used to cover staff salaries, and funding our other programs including childcare during counseling services and substance abuse meetings and a food and clothing bank. These programs will aldo be funded through donations and grant.

the steps

When funding goal is met we will start searching for a building to rent with the help of a local real estate agent. Once a building is aquaired we will begin preperation to open the child care program as the foundation of all other services. The community outreach program including the food bank and clothing closet as well as a job search workshop will begin followed by the mental health programs as funding and collabrative partners are secured.

why we're doing it

The current unemployment rate for Oswego County, NY is 8.0%, the need in our area for affordable and reliable child care is high. We also have a large population facing food insecurity and a need for substance abuse and mental health counseling.
