Terrific Tuesday!! Let's top $10,000 today!

the project

Since 2014 The Friends of Litchfield Community Greenway, Inc. has been working on creating a Greenway that links the center of Litchfield to the borough of Bantam - a route following the Historical Shepaug Railroad bed. The Greenway will provide a route for pedestrians to use and be off the main state highway of Route 202. There are no sidewalks between our 2 local high schools, homes or businesses to the center of Bantam - approximately 3 miles in distance. To date we have been able to complete two phases of the project and are ready to complete the 3rd. To accomplish this, we need to construct a boardwalk along Bissell Road as we approach Whitehall Road and Route 202. Your support will make this happen. Together we will continue moving forward with this project and provide a safe, accessible and non-motorized route for people of all ages to travel on by foot, bike, stroller, etc from the Center of Litchfield to Bantam.

the steps

When we have raised the $30,000.00 by June 15, 2020 we will be able to:

Commence site prep work

Set 26 helipiles and header boards

Construct 14 ct - 10' stretches of boardwalk

Install and connect boardwalk sections to create 140' of raised surface

Goal is to complete project on or near June 30, 2020 (weather permitting)

why we're doing it

The development and completion of the Litchfield Community Greenway has been an ongoing effort for some of our organization's members for over 20 years! Our energies and efforts are volunteer driven and supported by so many generous donors and foundations who have brought us this far. The construction and completion of this boardwalk section will allow people of all ages to travel by foot or bike from the Center of Litchfield to North Shore Road without ever having to get on the main highway of Route 202 - close to a 2 mile stretch of safe, nature bordered route. Installing the boardwalk and completing Phase 3 will be a great milestone. This achievement will motivate us even more to launch Phase 4 which will bring the Greenway route to the wonderful borough of Bantam and all its wonderful amenities! The Greenway will "connect the places we live with the places we love."
