Let's Daffodil Desmond Part 2!

The west side of Cleveland neighborhood my family calls home, Edgewater Parke, for years has endured a negative reputation. One source of the problem is that our neighborhood is effectively cut off from the lakefront and Edgewater Park by the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks, the Shoreway, and the historic, but dilapidated, Lake Avenue Bridge. Putting us firmly "on the wrong side of the tracks."

Last year, we raised over $2500 from residents, friends, family, and local businesses through ioby and were able to plant 5000 daffodil bulbs along the southern side of those tracks on Desmond Avenue, transforming the hillside this spring into our very own daffodil hill. We hope to raise enough money to plant another 5000 bulbs this fall so next spring will be even more stunning!

Source daffodil bulbs that will do well and be very visible in this location. 

Gather equipment, such as shovels and bulb planters, to be used in the fall planting. 

Assemble a volunteer team and plant 5,000+ daffodil bulbs one weekend this fall. 

Wait for Spring 2023!

The Desmond corridor, which runs alongside the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks between West Boulevard and Lake Avenue, often looks overgrown and neglected. Last year, we transformed it by planting over 5000 daffodil bulbs. Let's build on that success and plant another 5000 - turning this once ugly railroad hillside into a source of neighborhood pride!
