Lake Erie Action Days (LEAD) is a community-corporate matchmaking and environmental responsibility program that empowers business, communities, and employees to reduce litter and improve the water quality of the lake.
LEAD recruits and coordinates volunteers from businesses that want to grow and expand their social and environmental responsibility to assist communities and organizations with neighborhood cleanups.
Community group A wants to do a park clean-up. LEAD works with that group to estimate the scope and scale of the clean-up, and together we estimate a total of 30-40 volunteers for a half day project. LEAD communicates and recruits volunteers from local businesses and partnerships. Local business B sends employee volunteers, who get a paid half volunteer day from work to help community group A, recognition, education and encouragement to undertake projects in their own neighborhoods.
By matchmaking communities and organizations that need help with projects and businesses that want to grow and expand their social and environmental responsibility - everyone wins. Diverting and reducing single use plastic contamination in the sewer and water systems improves the water quality of Lake Erie. Communities with less litter can take pride in their streets. Employees feel they made a tangible difference in their communities through direct action. Community groups accomplish their goals. Local employers and businesses improve their community relations and environmental stewardship.
