Impromptu Cleanup

the project

North Memphis is the true "Heart of the City". Pearce Street was once a beautiful vibrant area. It's time to restore her beauty. So, we're going to put a KISS on it! Keep it Safe & Sanitary is an awesome opportunity to revitalize our community. Working hands on with our neighbors will show that we are invested in the resurrection of our neighborhood. For more than 10 years we have been petitioning, fighting and rallying together to get an abandoned apartment complex demolished on Pearce Street. This eyesore remains. We want to move forward with reclaiming our street. The first step to doing this is to safely remove the debris and broken glass left behind on the open lot.

We are planning an event to promote the health and safety of Pearce Street. Our goal is to bring our neighbors together and eliminate blight and hazardous materials. We plan to work in a socially distanced event to clean up and develop a plan to KISS (Keep it Safe & Sanitary). We will also be working to encourage our neighbors to get active again by cleaning up our street. Most of our neighbors are not as comfortable getting out to participate in clean-up efforts due to Covid-19 concerns and not having the appropriate tools to clear the lot. So, this is where I-Oby comes in. Help us fund the project.

why we're doing it

KISS will change the physical appearance of Pearce Street. After the cleanup trash will be eliminated allowing fresh air to circulate creating a healthier environment. The people in the community will see change and feel better about themselves and the environment. KISS will motivate neighbors to clean and continue to upkeep the area. If the area is clean, it will lower the chances of community exposure to Covid-19. Again, our goal is to bring awareness to safer practices to combat Covid-19 and eliminate blight.
