- Self-expression through music
- Instrument familiarity
- Learning rhythms
- Movement and dancing
- Socialization and bonding with peers/caregivers
The Steps
We are using these funds to re-up current programming with Ms Jesse, so the infrastructure is already in place. Arielle will promptly coordinate dates with NRPCA's building manager and Jesse for both fall and spring programming.
Why we‘re doing it
The Family Programming Committee is a new group within NRPCA. We aim to bring child and family-based initiatives to the neighborhood to foster a greater sense of community and creativity, particularly among children and households of children. Because in an overly-scheduled world, the need for play is everything.
There are endless benefits to group music classes including:
-
Intellectual development: builds executive function skills, content knowledge, and creative thinking. Problem solving and early exposure to mathematical calculations are also noticed from guided-play.
-
Social development: playing with others means sharing ideas, expressing feelings, noticing social cues, listening, and taking another person’s perspective – key aspects of empathy and community building.
-
Emotional development: particularly present in social and guided play, such as in music classes, kids learn self-regulation as they follow norms and pay attention, how to set and change rules, and how to decide when to lead and when to follow.
-
Physical development: develop strength, muscle control, coordination, and reflexes.
