the project

We are a group of friends that tragically lost someone we loved last year. Our friend's name was Kyle-Anthony Williams, and he was a community-minded, kind, thoughtful, smart, and extremely talented artist. Unfortunately, despite his natural talent and deep affection for the arts, due to a lack of opportunity, he never had the chance to realize what all who loved him knew he was capable of.

There are countless adolescents with an aptitude or interest in the arts for whom, much like our friend, resources are not readily available. Our group would like to honor Kyle by establishing a scholarship to support young people who embody the spirit of our friend and have a love and passion for the arts. The KAW Scholarship, which stands for our friend’s name, Kyle-Anthony Williams, and simultaneously for “Kids in the Arts Win”, would serve to enable the awarded students to fully express themselves as they develop their artistic gifts. It would also assist them at critical junctures in their educational and professional development through a mentorship program.

If you’re able, our group would appreciate your support in putting this scholarship fund together. If you’re unable to donate at this time, we understand and there are many other ways you can support us! You can volunteer to help in the application period, advocate for us by sharing our project page with a family member or friend or even sign up to be a mentor. Even a quick mention on your social media would mean the world to us. In times like this, we’re reminded of how interconnected we all are. Thank you for taking this first step in being part of our community. Without you, none of it is possible.

This donation will be used to support the education of young people as they work hard to develop their capacities, build their skills, and grow their creative thinking.

the steps

The scholarship application period is from July 5th to October 25th. There will be a selection process run by the KAW Scholarship group.

The scholarship will be open to : (1) Metro Atlanta Adventist Academy Students {grades K - 12}, (2) Metro Atlanta Students {grades 9-12}, and (3) University Students { 1st and 2nd Years}

The scholarship funds will be awarded directly to awardees for the Spring semester of 2022 by the second week of December.

Mentorship will begin in the second week of the Spring semester and will include:

  • Bi-Weekly Resource Shares
  • Vision Board Support
  • 1-2 Group Work Shops
  • Monthly Goal Check-Ins
  • 1 Art Experience (Chosen by the student)

If we raise more funds than the targeted goal for the current year it will roll over into the budget for the following year.

Funding will be awarded to a new group of applicants each year. Additionally, a small percentage, (the amount will be shared with donors), will go to administrative costs (i.e. marketing, web page support, program management).

why we're doing it

We hope to establish a scholarship in order to honor the life of our friend Kyle-Anthony Williams by supporting young people with an affinity for the arts. The Arts are one of the more unappreciated disciplines. However, art can aid children positively in many areas including support of both their cognitive and physical development. Art in all its beautiful diversity has several benefits, yet this is an area that continues to lose funding across groups, and in black and brown communities this happens disproportionately. We hope to make a dent in progress towards increased access via funding for kids who would like to pursue art as a career or as a constructive hobby.
