LIFENFLUX LLC & Blakk Jakk Dance Collective LLC are proud to announce their upcoming fundraising event, "Juneteenth: A Commemoration," which will take place on Sunday, June 18th, 2023, from 3:00-6:00 pm at Disciples Christian Church. Hosted by Sam SylkThis event is all about celebrating freedom, culture, and history! Attendees will enjoy a feature film world premiere, live performances, music, dance, food, drinks, and fun for all. This event is a commemoration of Juneteenth, the day when the last remaining enslaved Africans in the United States were finally declared free on June 19, 1865. We aim to educate, empower and connect with community members through dance, music, and film. The program will feature a world premiere of a feature dance film, as well as live performances of dance and music. We will also have food and drinks available for attendees to enjoy. This event is meant to bring together people of all ages, races, and backgrounds to celebrate the achievements of African Americans in the United States, as well as create a space for community engagement and dialogue. We hope to inspire and empower attendees to learn more about the rich history and culture of African Americans, and to continue the fight for equality and justice for all.
We aim to have sparked a renewed interest in the celebration of Juneteenth in our community, and for this celebration to become an annual event on our community calendar. We believe that this will further promote cultural exchange and foster unity among community members of all races, creeds, and backgrounds. We recognize the power of dance as a form of artistic expression and a vehicle for social change. 15 months from now, we envision our Juneteenth Commemoration event to have been a massive success. Our hope is that, as a result of our community engagement efforts, we have helped educate, empower, and connect community members to the rich history and culture of African Americans.
