About the project
Inside Our Minds works to elevate the voices of people with lived experience of mental illness and madness in Pittsburgh. Through our community programming, we want to build a community where open conversations about mental illness and madness can take place.
Inside Our Minds is a completely volunteer-run organization - organized by people living with mental illness. To ensure the most people possible can benefit from our services, all of our events are free and open to the public. With your support, our team hopes to continue to provide our programming for free and expand our capacity as an organization - utilizing accessible venues and expanding our outreach to neighborhoods across Pittsburgh.
You can learn more about Inside Our Minds at our website, and follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
The Steps
Inside Our Minds serves the Pittsburgh region through person-focused, community-based programming. Your generous donation will support the following events:
Anonymous Open Mic - a storytelling project working to build a community narrative around mental illness in Pittsburgh. Pittsburghers affected by mental illness can submit a short story, poem, or spoken word piece anonymously online. Community members can then volunteer to perform the anonymous works in front of a live audience on behalf of the anonymous storytellers.
Mental Health Cafe - a monthly community conversation on mental health and mental illness over coffee and treats. The event will focus on informal discussions and friendly peer support in a welcoming space for all.
The Mental Illness Spotlight - a podcast that fights the stigma of mental illness by featuring the stories of people with various mental health diagnoses. The podcast participants will share their experiences, discuss treatments & symptoms, take listener questions, and debunk stereotypes in order to educate community members about mental illness. Why we‘re doing it
We believe that conversations about mental illness should be open and encouraged in our community, not hidden away. Inside Our Minds wants to demonstrate to our community that there is nothing scary about talking about mental illness. Come to one of our events and see for yourself! :)
