the project
In 2008 IMPACT went to the 80th OSCARS CEREMONY and performed their Best Original Song Nomination RAISE IT UP from the film AUGUST RUSH. As we celebrate this achievement and our twenty-fifth anniversary we also embark upon a new season, holding auditions for our 2023 Youth Cohort. With your help who knows what this next group of talented IMPACT youth will accomplish!
For Twenty-Five years IMPACT Repertory Theatre Performance Company has been a safe space where our youth use current events and their own personal experiences as material to explore the issues facing young people in America. The Repertory Company performs in front of over 25,000 people per year at venues ranging from the United Nations Headquarters, NYC's City Hall, hospitals, public schools as well as penitentiaries.
the steps
- On March 11 & 18 th IMPACT will hold auditions for our 2023 youth cohort.
- This will be followed by spoken word and song workshops throughout the Spring and Summer, creating new material and well as learning material from the repertoire.
- The 2023 IMPACT cohort will join current members as well as alumni in performing our original material throughout the city, in our community and others, spreading a message of hope and peace.
why we're doing it
IMPACT Repertory Theatre is an innovative youth performing arts program, which combines training in the creative arts (spoken word, musical theater, dance, poetry, and song-writing) and youth leadership development, through the concept of “art-ivism” -- using art and activism to change the world. Our mission is to effect desirable transformations in youth and their communities, through creative self-expression, a commitment to safe space, outstanding effort, and public service to the community.
IMPACT uses art as a vehicle to empower under-served New York City youth with the knowledge, skills, tools, and self-esteem needed to bring about positive personal and social change. All of the work produced by IMPACT is created by the youth company members. Through a collaborative creative process, which is guided by professional artists, participants transform their daily experiences and events affecting their communities into performance pieces, which share positive messages with 25,000 annually at schools, community organizations, cultural venues and events.
"KEEP A POSITIVE THOUGHT because a positive thought CANNOT BE DENIED."
