the project

Avalon Village the Heart of Highland Park was brought to life from the Vision of Mama Shu. When others saw blight she saw beauty and a opportunity to contribute to the lives of the people in the area. The Imhotep STEM Lab is the most recent addition to Avalon Village. The STEM Lab will provide instruction and hands on activities in science, technology, engineering , and mathematics to the youth of Highland Park. It will serve as a hub to increase interest of these disciplines to inner city youth. We believe that Introducing these fields at an early age would add to the possibilities of what children aspire to be.

With the money raised we will be able to furnish the STEM Lab with items that ignite discovery and feed possibility. We believe that this will cultivate generations that can usher in change within their communities.

the steps

Our goal is to raise 50,000 however this is phase 1 of fundraising. For phase 1 our goal is to raise 15,000.  Once we have the cash on hand we will move forward with transforming the interior of the lab from a plain box into a classroom that sparks wonder, creativity, and possibility. This will be done by painting the interior, implementing technical design, setup and assembly, smart TV, teleconferencing tech, desks and chairs.

Phase 2

To raise 25,000 to purchase significant items needed for STEM lab which include but are not limited to a milling machine, coat rack, first aid cabinet, water cooler, Demo tools/workbench, 3D Printers and other lab materials.

Phase 3

Final leg of fundraising to raise 10,000 for staffing, purchasing computers/tablets, and STEM Kits

Upon completion of fundraising the Imhotep STEM lab will be ready to serve the students of Highland Park!

why we're doing it

We are doing this because we believe in Mama Shu, the impact of her vision, the youth of Highland Park and the city she loves. The addition of this STEM lab not only aids in the education of minorities but shows youth that anything is possible.

The STEM lab will be a place where students will cultivate their leadership and gain the importance of team work all while learning in an environment where they are loved and supported. Currently minorities in the clean energy industry are comprised of less than  3% of the total clean energy work force and the numbers fair about the same within the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Through this initiative we believe that we can have a positive impact on increasing minority representation in STEM and clean energy nationwide.
