About the project
Idlewild Elementary's community garden will provide "hand on learning for class use during life science studies by creating and making connections between the classroom, curriculum and practical experience. Our team of teachers, students, and parents will work together to cultivate a appreciation of healthly lifestyle choices creating a green community that extends beyond the school day and students to the mid-town community.
The Steps
Improve and reconstruct bed structures in March/April. Transfer planted seedlings to the new beds in April. Replace concrete blocks with field stones to enhance safety in the garden area. Purchase mulch, soil, mulch, edging, protective screening, garden signs/labels, water hoses for use in the community garden. April/May/June/July teams weeding, tilling, picking and distributing vegetables grown for use in school and midtown community.
Why we‘re doing it
Idlewild Community Garden at Idlewild Elementary will offer students, teacher, parents and community members the opportunity to take an active part in developing and sustaining healthy life styles through growth and consumption of "home grown" vegetables.
