the project

I Can Swim My Way is in memory of William Otis Jordan ( Billy) who passed away unexpectedly from acute myocardial infraction and coronary artery thrombosis on June 2, 2022, while swimming at The French Creek YMCA. Billy had been a life-long swimmer. He first received his lessons at the Ashtabula YMCA in the 1960s. He and his sister Gloria J. Buxton learned to swim together as sister and brother. According to Great Lakes SURF RESCUE PROJECT, there have been 73 Great Lakes Drownings in 2022.

This initiative aims to save lives and make sure children learn how to swim.

In Honor of Billy's love for swimming, my goal is to raise money to invest in a restricted fund at the French Creek YMCA that will be dedicated to providing scholarships that will cover swimming lessons for children in Lorain County.

the steps

 1. William Otis Jordan's (Billy) restricted fund will be established on August 12, 2022.

2. Collect donations from the community through this campaign.

3. Deposit donations into the restricted fund at the French Creek YMCA.

why we're doing it

We are saving lives by providing funds for swim lessons for children.

ioby Fiscal Sponsorship Fee (5%) $109
ioby Donation Processing Fee (3%)
(Donation processing fee does not apply to match funding.)

A 4-week swim lesson course = $48.00 for one child. Two-Thousand dollars ($2,000.00) will cover swim lessons for forty-one (41) children primarily enrolled at the French Creek YMCA.
