Here in New Haven, we've endured the record-breaking temperatures in the summer and unpredictable winters brought about by climate change. If you’re fortunate to live in a home that’s newer or that’s been updated, you likely feel comfortable inside year-round. But most New Haven residents live in older housing that lacks the air sealing, insulation, tight doors and windows, and efficient heating and air conditioning systems necessary to keep homes comfortable and healthy. They’re stuck wasting energy and paying higher utility bills.

NHS New Haven's My Home program provides one-on-one support for people seeking to make energy efficiency upgrades to their homes.

This program will lead to improvements in the comfort and health of customers' homes, lower their utility bills, and help us move toward the State-mandated greenhouse gas emissions reduction of 80% below 2001 levels by 2030.

the steps

1. Neighborhood outreach will include Community Management Team meetings; owners of Newhallville residential properties and segmented marketing to our HomeOwnership Center customers, as well as social and traditional media. 

2. We seek people most in need of this type of assistance, including homeowners who purchased their homes in 2005-2007 - immediately prior to the collapse of the housing market. This program will also benefit renters, landlords, people on fixed incomes, and people interested in buying a home in the near future.

3. Participants will attend orientations to understand the why behind the how, and to share their home improvement aspirations and success stories.

4. One-on-one counseling uses a data-driven process to help participants identify individual goals, what resources are available and appropriate to meet them, and what steps to take to complete the upgrade(s).

5. Project management services and assistance accessing resources are available as needed.

6. Participants enjoy the benefits of their initial success while energy and monetary savings of completed projects are measured and verified.

7. Participants may set a new goal and repeat the process, with some able to undertake two or even three energy-saving measures during the pilot.

8. Tools and processes developed during the pilot will be scalable to move many more Connecticut residents toward net-zero energy consumption in the coming years.

why we're doing it

My Home will help New Haven residents complete energy efficiency upgrades to their homes that will result in a living space that is healthier, money-saving, and more comfortable.

NHS New Haven promotes and practices environmentally-friendly initiatives in our target communities. The My Home program allows us to deepen our commitment to community sustainability while helping underserved urban residents save money and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Salesforce Consultant (to help us customize our database to allow for customer tracking/progress, automated messages, etc.): $10,000
PR, Marketing, Outreach: $8,000
Home Energy Audit Co-Pay Discretionary Assistance: $2,000​
