the project

Healthcare workers across the country are working around the clock as they battle the novel coronavirus, leaving little time for them to attend to their basic needs. At the same time restaurants everywhere have been forced to drastically curtail their operations amid widespread social distancing guidelines. In this backdrop, a few national charitable organizations have been set up in places like Boston, New York, and Los Angeles to help support the needs of both healthcare workers and restaurants alike. Now it's Biddeford's turn. Introducing Hungry Healthcare.

The premise is straightforward. Tax-deductible cash donations given to Hungry Healthcare are sent to local restaurants who use these proceeds to prepare meals for front-line healthcare workers. Hungry Healthcare then works with local hospitals to deliver these meals while ensuring sanitation and distancing guidelines are met. Healthcare workers get hot, nutritious meals, and restaurants get revenue to support their ongoing operations and employees.

the steps

1. Donate. Hungry Healthcare is working with ioby, a national 501(c)3 organization, to process your tax-deductible donations.

2. Using 100% of all donated funds, Hungry Healthcare orders meals for frontline healthcare workers. Let us know your favorite restuarants when you donate, and we'll try to spread the love as much as possible.

3. Hungry Healthcare works directly with hospitals to coordinate meal deliveries, ensuring that all sanitation and distancing guidelines are followed.

why we're doing it

I was born and raised in Biddeford, and have frequented many of the city's restaurants--my favorites growing up were Alex's Pizza, TJ's Pizza, Run of the Mill, and Cole Road Cafe; newer favorites include Palace Diner and Biscuits & Company.

Today, I am a medical resident working in Boston. I have seen first-hand the amazingly dedicated work of countless doctors, nurses, therapists, and aides, and have been humbled by the outpouring of support we have receive from the community.

I want to make sure that the restuarants I love in Biddeford are around for my kids to enjoy, and I want to help spread the love to my colleagues working on the frontlines in Biddeford.
