About the project

At Disability Assist, we help those in the community that are disabled with applying for benefits through the Social Security Administration. We assist families with the application process for the SSDI and SSI programs that grant both financial and medical benefits. In Lorain County, the number of resources for people who are eligible for these programs are few and far between. Additionally, many attorneys and representative groups do not take cases where they are not going to get paid for their services. This includes cases where the claimant is currently in a medical facility, or they have a terminal illness.

Your donation allows patients in Lorain County to have access to FREE representation when they are applying for disability benefits. This project allows entire groups of people who otherwise may not be able to afford representation or apply on their own to get the help they need. Supporting this cause will allow Disability Assist to serve patients receiving care through:

Hospice

In-home Palliative Care

Long-term Hospital Stays

Assisted Living

Rehabilitation Facilities

Nursing Homes

Memory Care Facilities

The Steps

Partner with health facilities in Lorain County

Identify patients who meet the program requirements

Submit their application to the Social Security Administration (SSA)

Maintain follow-up between SSA and the patient or their family (1-8 months)

Confirm benefits are received and refer to appropriate Medicaid or Medicare office (if eligible)

Why we‘re doing it

As a Lorain County native, I started Disability Assist when I discovered that there were very few attorneys or non-attorney representatives in this area that assisted with disability applications. After helping a family friend with the application for a terminal illness claim, I realized the chances of him being able to find outside help would be slim because a representative would not get paid for this type of case. This is my effort to put love, compassion, and support back into the community by helping those who may fall between the cracks of this process.
