H.E.A.L.T.H for Youths Healthy Interactive NYC Commuter Kiosks

Help us raise funds to provide fun, interactive kiosks along bus/subway/ferry routes in NYC where individuals can get information, play games, puzzles, brain teasers and most importantly, improve their rides!

About the project

H.E.A.L.T.H for Youths, Inc is a nonprofit that works with underserved youth to improve their lives and their communities. We approach health as making the best choices in all areas of life, including physical, mental, academic and financial. Through our model of total health we guide young people after high school and beyond to realize their future goals. H.E.A.L.T.H for Youths, Inc is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit formed for the charitable and educational purposes of assisting youth. We strive to combat community deterioration and juvenile delinquency, improve the quality of education, health care and life-skills training offered to adolescence and young adults.

In Staten Island NY, our organization has built Little Free Libraries for members of the community to take a book/give a book. This idea is different. We want to build small kiosks that have games, brain teasers, articles and other fun, educational items for children and adults. Commuters would get to choose items from the kiosk at the beginning of their commute and work on it during their commute. They would also get words of encouragement and clues from a text-based program to their cell phones. If they are successful in solving the puzzles, games or other interactive projects, they will receive a prize. Commuters would be able to ‘play’ as often as they like.

The kiosks will also have health information aspects, information vital to commuters, coupons, QR codes and much more.

Elements of the kiosk system:

- A hotspot

- Art work

- Lighting

- Flowers/plants around the kiosks

- A text-based system to give clues and help the players (with enough funding we may develop a small app)

- Other elements as suggested by the community

The Steps

The steps:

- Determine what elements of the kiosk can be included based on funds raised

- Have a meeting at a local school within the community to prioritize the way the kiosks are set up

- Work with the community and schools on specific locations for kiosks

- Work with local youth to create art work for kiosks

- Construct kiosks with professionals, volunteers and youth

Why we‘re doing it

Commutes around NYC can be very long. Bus, ferry and subway rides are a good way to use the time people travel in a fun, educational, constructive way. For children, the kiosks could be particularly helpful in terms of enhancing reading, math and logic skills.
