The kids (baby goats) of Allegheny GoatScape are turning one this spring and we would like to give them a birthday gift of a guardian donkey. The donkey will accompany them on their projects and help keep them safe. While the other herd has the help of miniature donkey Hobo, this new little herd needs a protector of its own!
The kids of Allegheny GoatScape - Petoskey, Kal, and Oreo - will be taking on their first project with Allegheny GoatScape, tackling the knotweed growing along the banks of the Monongahela River. Help us reach our goal so that we can provide the herd with a great shepherd as they begin this important work!
Allegheny GoatScape will use the funds raised to cover the costs of adopting a new donkey. As soon as the new herd goes to work, we hope to have the donkey right there with them!
Allegheny GoatScape clears invasive plants and unwanted vegetation in public spaces and vacant lots with a friendly herd of goats. We love working with goats because they are effective, eco-friendly, and engaging. The herd can do what people and machinery cannot - manage Pittsburgh's steep slopes and remove throny, itchy, and invasive plants. In fact, goats have a taste for our region's most persistent invasive plants. Reducing the need for herbicides, fuels, and expensive machinery, goats leave no waste and naturally fertilize the soil. There's also nothing like cute, fuzzy animals to get neighbors engaged in a project, and the Allegheny GoatScape herd is a particularly friendly bunch!
However, the herd couldn't do all this without the protection of a donkey. Our loyal miniature donkey, Hobo, is a great guardian for our first herd, and the second herd needs the same kind of support. Donkeys help keep away potential predators, and keep the goats relaxed and comfortable.
Will you help us give the kids the best first birthday gift ever?
