the project

The Grind League Art Proposal project/program is an extension of the flagship event the organization has hosted since instituted. This project will increase value to surrounding neighborhoods, brighten views of the park, increase participation, and uplift the overall outlook on our communities by bringing artwork that represents the people of the community. With support from local organizations and national brands, aid and resources have been provided to assist us in giving our city a structured plan for painting & renovating our park courts and regaining our youth's attention to community care and development. This is part of The Grind League's "Community Togetherness initiative", uplifting the areas we use for activities and events.

We plan to begin the process the week of August 6th! Donations will be accepted throughout the process as day of and in progress expenses may occur. Please contact (216) 414-6853 to make a donation in-person or via Chase Bank deposit.

The fourth annual Community Togetherness Fest. & Grind League 3x3 will be held September 2nd through 3rd, 2023, Labor Day weekend, at Oakwood Park, Lorain, Ohio. This cultural festival-style environment is hosted by a nonprofit organization with the goals of increasing community engagement and spreading local resources & information to youth and young adults of Lorain County, Ohio. The Basketball tournament segment "Grind League 3x3" is endorsed by FIBA3x3. We plan on servicing all youth, teen, & adult age participants that want to play or have an interest. We also provide tournament shirts, drinks & snacks, and active photos, included with the organized play. It is important that we provide a quality, safe, and promising event for all to enjoy. Any financial and physical support from the community is important!

Planned age group brackets are 8 -10, 11-13, 14-16, or 17. The cost will include record-keeping supplies, shirts (merch), drinks & snacks, referees, and photographers are necessities to facilitate a cooperative organized tournament and entertainment for the youth segment. This tournament features a unique endorsement from the FIBA 3x3 federation associated with USA Basketball 3x3 and the Olympics. Introducing the youth to official FIBA 3x3 basketball play. Serious youth participants are encouraged to create a player profile on the FIBA 3x3 website (https://play.fiba3x3.com/signup). In order to keep track of progress and results acknowledgment from FIBA 3x3. We are welcoming all!

the steps

  • We have received approval from the city on an art concept for Oakwood Park.
  • Reinaldo Contreras's artwork was hand-selected by the leadership of the city of Lorain.
  • Receive Renovation Permit Approvals
  • Selecting a date in August to begin painting
  • Host an informative event showcasing the court renovation artwork to be considered or what will be laid out.
  • Inviting of HoopBus resources to come to our city for aid & consulting. Signing up volunteers for day of painting and other tasks associated days before or days after painting & renovation has begun or finished.
  • Upon receiving funds and establishing final financial steps. The painting process planning will begin in August, this will be a 4 - 6 day project.
  • Facilitation of the project will be led by The Grind League, volunteers, professional consults (Lori & Zer HoopBus resources), and local volunteers.
  • Upon receiving funds, we will purchase needed supplies and materials associated with The Grind League Court Renovation Art project & Community Togetherness Fest & Grind League 3x3. Including Advertising, paint, materials & supplies, apparel (merch), transportation needs, labor contractors, securing performance acts, referees, and other program/project day of expenses.

why we're doing it

We are facilitating a void in local recreation that includes culture, entertainment, community, and healthy physical fitness within the city of Lorain and throughout Lorain County, Ohio. We come together for community information & resources at Oakwood Park in a festive cultural environment. This is something unlike any community event that has taken place in recent years. The fourth consecutive effort aims to continue that goal along with community peace and positivity. This also fills a void in the city of Lorain as a two-day event held in a park during Labor Day weekend.

Big thank you to all who have supported these past three years! Now we are working with the city of Lorain to renovate and paint the courts. Please help us fund this endeavor as most grants will not support this action because it is a public property we want to renovate and improve.
