About the project
(Damaged barrels on Green Ave.)
Winter was long and cold! Many of our wooden flower barrels that line the block were damaged by winter's harsh conditions and we're raising money to replace them. These barrels are used by our neighborhood to plant small flower gardens in front yards and make the block green and beautiful. We are raising funds to replace the barrels in preparation for our spring planting event -- an opportunity for neighbors of all ages to participate in planting flowers and impacting the neighborhood in a green and positive way.
(New barrels and Spring 2015 street goal!)
The Steps
1. Raise funds:
- Online at ioby.org
- In person at Greene Avenue United Neighbor Association events
- Via flower sales and product raffles at Mother's Day Weekend market
2. Buy new barrels.
3. Plant and beautify our streets!
4. Enjoy!
Why we‘re doing it
Last year we raised enough money to add a gazebo to our community garden at the corner of Nostrand and Greene Aves. However that initiative depleted most of the funds and we are unable to replace many of the wooden flower barrels that line the block that were damaged over the winter used by neighbors to plant small flower gardens in their front yards and make the block green and beautiful. This fundraiser would allow us to replace the damaged barrels.
The Greene Ave United Neighbors Assoc., Inc. was established in April 1980 to preserve, beautify and make safe the public areas of the block of Greene Ave between Bedford and Nostrand avenues in the borough of Brooklyn. We seek to promote the general welfare and betterment of the community by working with law enforcement to stamp out any illegal activity that occurs on the block and by implementing such safety measures as improved lighting on the sidewalks and speed bumps on the roadway. We are raising money to purchase plants and shrubbery for installation in public areas and additional maintenance of our garden for public use.
