the project
Giant Puppet Dance Club brings people of all ages from the Northside together to learn simple choreography and dance in giant puppets made by Brighton Heights Artist Cheryl Capezzuti. Puppeteers of all ages meet weekly at JP Performing Arts Gallery to learn a dance they will perform at events around our community. This community project is great exercise and not like anything else you will do this summer.
Look for giant puppet dancing at community events all over the North Side this summer!
the steps
1. Project will be promoted by Artist Cheryl Capezzuti all over the North Side and people will sign up for Giant Puppet Dance Club via email or phone.
2. Choreographer Jessica Schubert will work with Capezzuti to select music and choreograph a short puppet performance.
3. Community members in the Giant Puppet Dance Club will meet once a week at JP Performing Arts Gallery beginning June 22.
4. Participants will learn simple choreography and practice wearing giant puppets. Dance class is Monday from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm and is free and open to the public.
2. Giant Puppet Dance Club members will perform at least three times this summer at the Roving Art Cart when it visits North Side Locations and, hopefully, the North Side Farmer's Market on a Friday evening in July.
why we're doing it
This is a community building project that allows me to share my collection of hundreds of giant puppets with the community. It will bring people together, make them laugh and have a great time with neighborhs they might never otherwiase mee. It is a wacky, joyful project desgned to make people smile and laugh out loud and it gives our community a project that no other neighborhood has.
