About the project

Art in the Park is an organization that I started in 2015. It was a decision based on my love for the Harlem community, passion for art across all genres and the goal of making it accessible to children of all ages for free in their neighborhood parks. Since 2015, Art in the Park has served over 100 children and their families in local parks within urban undeserved communities. Participants are exposed to painting, jazz, classical music, dance, poetry, engaging activities like the most recent a beautification project where families planted over 1000 Daffodils bulbs in the fall of 2018, 2019 and hope to continue with the years to come. Currently Art in the Park is hosting a winter coat drive and has partnered with a local shelter and church to donate coats and other items to people in need.

Art in the Park is planning a Get fit autism family fun day for August 2020, this event will provide families with  healthy approach on providing families with children on and off the spectrum the opprtunity to learn fun exciting ways to stay fit, eat healthy and have an amazing time doing it. Due to the COVIC-19 pandemic we are working on ways to still provide a fun filled day and still pratice social distancing for our families. These funds will also help assist with the changes that may have to occur.

Why we‘re doing it

I was born in raised in this community, I also raisemy children in this community.  This community needs  Art in the Park to help provide a positive outlook on life for youth and families from low income undeserved areas. This area is highly populated with homelessness, illegal drug activities, single family homes, high school dropout rates. This event and events in the past and in the future will address these issues because the more the families and children in the neighborhood see a positive change in their local park and community. Our programs deal with mental wellness, creating positive family dynamics.
