the project
We want to put helmets on as many young bicyclists as we can this spring. it's a tough world out there. Of course kids need to have plenty of active time after school and on weekends. Bicycling and walking should be a big part of that. BUT we must do whatever ew can to make sure kids bike safely. Wearing a bicycle helmet is the most important gear a child can wear to prevent serious head injury.
That's why we furnish custom-fitted , CPSC approved (and cool looking) bicycle helmets. We focus our efforts in neighborhoods where the need is greatest. You can help by funding those helmets. Thanks to the LeBonheur Hospital's safe kids program , we get a sweet deal on helmets.
the steps
A serious head injury - one that did not happen. That's what you can do. Your donation supports safer ridership for Memphis youngsters. We give helmets to grade-school children who otherwise would not have them.
At our bicycle safety rodeos, participants learn how to ride better . We set up four different activities - each one stressing different skills to teach kids how to ride more safely. The courses are plenty of fun too.
Each participant is given a custom-fitted helmets before riding on the course. They are welcome to keep the helmets and use them for as long as they wish.
why we're doing it
This spring we have scheduled events at Caldwell Guthrie and Berclair Elementary Schools with more events to be scheduled based on our capacity to serve more young bicyclists
