About the project
We are because of our community. You have supported us in many ways over the years and we appreciate you! Now we are asking for your help - to keep providing produce to our Bronx community!
We have worked in partnership with the Mary Mitchell Family and Youth Center in a variety of ways for years - Karen raised her kids in this neighborhood and worked with the center to create the La Familia Verde coalition that runs the farmers market, Michaela made sauerkraut and provided demos to the kids at the center, Jane met Karen during her work as an Americorp Vista at the Garden of Happiness and Bissel Garden, Lorrie gardened not far away at Taqua Community Garden. We love our community in the Bronx and want to keep providing them with fresh, nutritious produce from the farm - we need your help to make it happen!
The Steps
1. Harvest existing produce and deliver weekly to the Mary Mitchell Center in the Bronx
2. Plant new seeds to keep the successions of fresh greens going over the winter
3. Deliver a bumper crop of produce to the community for the annual Thanksgiving week food distribution
Why we‘re doing it
Healthy, fresh, culturally appropriate food should be a right, not a priviledge. The Mary Mitchell Center sits at the heart of a community in the Bronx which Karen has described as under Food Apartheid - fresh produce is intentionally scarce and fast food, and other unhealthy options are plentiful. We believe our community in the Bronx deserves better - deserves to be nourished in order to flourish. Please help us make it happen!
