About the project

Our project is to open a community tool lending library in the Freret Neighborhood of Uptown New Orleans. The Tool Lending Library will offer community members access to tools and instruction for home and garden maintenance. The Tool Lending Library is a project of NOLA TimeBank and the Freret Neighborhood Center. The Freret Neighborhood Center has been supporting neighborhood anti-blight activities since opening in 2009.

The Steps

After successful completion of the ioby fundraising campaign, the buildout of the Freret Tool Lending Library will be done in November and December of 2014. In January of 2015 we will move our existing inventory (previously and generously donated by INGRAM MICRO) into the new space and put out a call for additional tool donations. January and February of 2015 will be our soft open months with volunteers learning the software and coordinating safety training and home maintenance classes.

Why we‘re doing it

The mission of the Tool Lending Library is to assist residents in their efforts to reduce blight and preserve New Orleans' historic housing stock as well as providing training and economic development opportunities for area residents.
