About the project
Friends of 4 Parks yoga in the park program promotes healthy lifestyles, builds community and fosters appreciation of our local parklands. These weekly yoga sessions introduce our South Bronx Community to the concepts and physical and mental benefits of yoga. All classes are free and are presented in the lush outdoor setting of Franz Sigel Park in the Bronx. We have several different instructors and a broad cross-section of the community attends each week and we average about 15-20 people each Saturday.
The Steps
Friends of 4 is thankful to have experienced yoga instructors who are dedicated to leading our yoga sessions every Saturday from May until the end of September. Funding raised through this initiative will ensure that we can continue our yoga into the 2024 season. Friends of 4 Parks takes attendance each week and we are able to communicate easily with those who attend yoga sessions. This is our fifth year in the park and we have a dedicated following that will support this initiative. We hope to do additional publicity via fliers and social media to increase our attendance which has gone up this year.
Why we‘re doing it
Our yoga program brings the benefits of yoga to our South Bronx Community. Private yoga sessions can pose a financial barrier to many members of our neighborhood and many who are not familiar with yoga will simply think it's not for them. This program removes barriers to yoga and encourages all community members to give it a try. Friends of 4 Parks yoga program brings together a broad spectrum of the community lets everyone focus on healthy living and the beauty of our parks. It also activates one of our local parks which is central the mission of Friends of 4 Parks.
