For a couple of years now, I've had a free little library on my front porch via a book shelf. My immediate neighbors use it, but it know a library on the curb would get a lot more use. I imagine neighbors stopping by to check the library and talking to each other much more frequently. I haven't seen a free library in Cooper Young; I think we will be the first. The first in a neighborhood full of wonderfully smart and creative folks! 

the steps

I recruited a few neighbors to help with the campaign.

I sent an email to our block club and am fundraising via facebook. 

I'll order the free little library I saw on the internet.

My neighbor, Steve, will help us put it together and plant it and fill it with our books (now on the book shelf on my porch).

We will announce to the block club and the neighborhood association that the library is open. 

 

 

why we're doing it

Just one more gathering place for CYers to share stuff and talk to each other.

Hi all, 

The little library is up and operating! Within minutes of installing it with my husband and our neighbor, Steve Lockwood, we met a neighbor who is a librarian and her child grabbed a book to read. I met several other neighbors I didn't know as the day went on. 

Come on over and grab a book, leave a book.

Hi gang, 

I got the check from ioby (420.08) and ordered a library. With shipping it was over our amount, but no worries. Brian and I will pick up the cost for a post and cement. And apparently they assemble it for us. It should come in 4-6 weeks. Below is a link to the one we chose.
