why we're doing it
FSG builds community through the arts. We listen to the community. Throughout the years, during our visioning workshops, we recognized that arts and ideas programming is valued and brings tremendous benefits to our community. We work with civic and public leaders, community organizations and cultural institutions to provide the kind of programming that enlivens the park's surrounding neighborhood and provides an art destination for others. We are committed to community building through education and inspired collaborative works.
This season, we are promoting environmental stewardship, with a focus on sustainability issues, ocean preservation, environmental awareness and more.
In collaboration with NYC Department of Parks and Recreation, First Street Green art park has successfully incorporated the formerly derelict building lot at 33 E. 1st Street into First Park, providing ongoing cultural activity. FSG has won grants from the BMW Guggenheim Lab, Citizen’s Committee for NYC, Partnership for Parks, Penn State’s Institute for Arts and Humanities, School of Visual Art, and College of Arts and Architecture.
As we enter our 7th season, with your generosity and support, we will continue to bring roses, public art, and exciting cultural programs, to the community.
