About the project
This fundraiser will help us with the cost of obtaining a space in the city where we can set up an open studio for the members of the community where they will have access to any of the supplies and amenities they might need as well as a safe space to create in. All of the funds raised will go directly into obtaining an accessible space that artists can use as well as many amenities to fill the space wthh. We are also fundraising for some of the many amenities that we plan to fill the space with. In addition to this, we are always accepting donations of gently used art supplies and you can contact us about how to donate these items via email at [email protected].
The Steps
Between August 30th to September 30th, these are the goals that we are hoping to reach:
We will obtain a studio space for artists to start working in as well as the easels, tables, and chairs for artists to bring any current projects they are working on.
We are going to buy a safe paint disposal can for artists to dispose of any chemicals or paint that is unsafe to throw away in a normal garbage can.
We are going to purchase pedestals, backdrops, and lighting equipment for artists to have a space to photograph their work.
We will purchase drying racks where artists can hang their work to dry.
We will buy Canvasses, paint, paint brushes, sewing machines, and a small printing press so that artists can come in and actually use the materials to create any work that they have previously not has the resources to create.
Why we‘re doing it
We at Yard Sale Art Collective believe that art should be accessible to people in all communities regardless of socio-economic background. We want to provide a safe, inclusive, and accessible workspace open to all artists as well as resources and materials they may need to create. In the future, we would like to offer access to more amenities that aren’t readily available to all people as well as rotating artist exhibitions. We are artists ourselves and know how hard it is to obtain not only a space to work, but amenities to work with that are supplemental to the pieces you create. We are all incredibly motivated to bring this project to fruition because we believe that making art should not be a luxury awarded to those who have the money to attend universities and other expensive classes but instead should be treated as a fundamental right that all people should have the access to.
