About the project
The Dreamers will organize group exercises and contest between the girls and boys @ recess. They will compete in track drills to prepare for March races. We will work with the school aides and help coach 100 kids each day. Over the course of a month we want to be able to work with every single student in P.S. 128.
The Title IX Girls team will be jr coaches at lunchtime. They are key to us working with many students.The school aides will be responsible for safety. The boys learn to listen as the TitleIX girls prove the importance of hard work.
The Steps
We will provide coaching, equipment and staffing to get this project done. The main thing is expertise. Few folks are trained to work with 50 kids at a time age 5-11 in an auditorium. Safety and enthusiasm are the key. So we sing instead of screaming. The jr buddy coaches are trained to help like a buddy and not like a bully so that kids want to try.
Why we‘re doing it
Many kids lose a chance to participate in team sports because they are in certain programs or busy on the week-end. Girls especially have a tough time finding a place where they can learn to get in shape. Our girls will lead the way and the boys will be more disciplined by learning to respect them. When the races come March 4th and 24th, girls and boys age 5-11 will be ready. Recess will be practice. The kids will learn the sport and the history of it.
