the project
We hope to raise $8000, which will fund producing and delivering 2000 face shields to our local medical heroes.
We have been making shields for about 2 weeks, and the demand is GREATLY outstripping the initial batch of materials we bought.
the steps
I own a marine canvas shop, have accounts with some of the biggest suppliers in the country, and have a large CNC cutting machine. I repurposed my shop and machines to make face shields. As of now, we have provided more than 1000 to area care facilities. Free.
We are up and running, making and delivering about 200 shields/day and we running out of funds. We can increase production significanlty if we order bigger quantities of materials.
why we're doing it
I have friends and family who work in the emergency rooms, hospitals, and other care facilities of the area. Their stories are grim and scary, especially the fact that they very quickly went through the stock of available PPE. I have the ability to supply face shields quickly and economically, so I changed my shop and repurposed my machines to make shields. We are crowdfunding this so we can respond QUICKLY.
I asked a friend to drop off some to a large, local hospital. The person who received the sheilds could not hold back tears of gratitude. My friend is now working with us. We are up to a crew of 4 people, working in 3 different places.

Whirlwind of a week
Posted 04/24/2020 - 10:06am
It's been an exciting week. We brought in 8 more volunteers, have about 1200 shields being assembled, added public safety people to our list of recipients (apparently, spitting at police officers is becomming common- WTF?), and delivered about 600 shields.
Thanks to all who are making this happen. We are almost to our goal! Every little bit helps.
Our assembly process

A friend came up with this process. It's fast, durable, and stronger than stitching!
Wow! Thanks for the support, we need it!

Today was a bit of a whirlwind. A few hours was spent sourcing tools, then I cut 1600 ties, which will make 800 shields.
It's 7:30, and I'm just sitting down.
We brought in a few more volunteers today. Two to help assemble, and another friend to help us with inventory and logistics. We are ramping up quickly and trying not to overwhelm any of us.
Thanks to all who are making this happen!
