the project
Play Where You Stay is a neighborhood-based program that removes barriers of time, travel, and expense by bringing high-quality coaching to neighborhoods across Memphis with no fee or equipment requirements. This project will support our three girls competitive teams from ages 12-18 that will have their season from January until May.
the steps
We have recruited 90 players for our three girls competitive teams from ages 12-18. During this season, we will provide high-quality training and competition as well as participation in college showcases that can lead to college scholarship opportunities.
why we're doing it
Girls face multiple barriers when it comes to sports participation. According to the Women’s Sports Foundation, “by age 14, many girls are dropping out of sports at two times the rate of boys”. Some of the most important factors that lead to it are: lack of access, safety and transportation issues, cost, and decreased quality of experience. Memphis is not an exception and the soccer opportunities for girls are expensive for families and mostly in the suburbs. This grant would support our three girls teams and coaches in 2023.
