the project

For the opening of our 2023-24 season, Ensemble Decipher will continue its principal mission of highlighting incredible compositional voices working with new and vintage technologies by premiering works by Bora Yoon, Chelsea Loew. This evening-length concert will occur in Brooklyn and will be held in October of 2023. The concert will operate on a policy that no person will be turned away at the door, with a suggested ticket price of $15.

At this concert we also plan on presenting works that have grown out of interdisciplinary collaborations with other artists and technologists, including the New York premiere of new works commissioned from composer-performer Erin Rogers and Lyn Goeringer, and a performance of Mari Kimura's KISMET. The last work on the program will be our co-created dance work with Iranian choreographer Hiva Sedaghat, titled The Sound Sleep Has Been Shattered.

why we're doing it

Ensemble Decipher strives to redefine performer virtuosity by drawing on the technological advancements of our time to highlight new voices and ways of listening. We also seek to reflect on and challenge the power structures that lace the field of electronic music by reexamining technology’s role in their performance practice. To do so, we consistently commission composers from historically marginalized backgrounds who engage deeply with questions relevant to our contemporary, technology-driven society. We believe the composers and artists on this concert reflect this mission well.
